The MediaTek was considered a major chip manufacturer to producing low-cost SoCs in the smartphone industry. But the last couple of years, Qualcomm has geared-up and came along with several mid-range to low range chips including Snapdragon 410, 415, 425, 430, 435, 615, 625 and much more. The company is leading the smartphone world with a strong hold. On the other, MediaTek also working hard to compete with Qualcomm hasn’t got much success. Now the company is looking forward to introducing new mid-range processors – P23 and P30.
The MediaTek P23 is being manufactured by Taiwanese Semiconductor company TSMC and said to include ARM 8 x Cortex-A53 an octa-core CPU, LPDDR4x memory, LTE Cat.7, up to 2K resolution supported and PowerVR 7XT GPU. The chip employs 16nm process, similar to its predecessor Helio P20. Unfortunately,
Unfortunately, no information provided regarding Helio P30, but previous reports indicate that it would be using 12nm process fueled up 4 x 2GHz Cortex-A72 cores and 4 x 1.5GHz Cortex-A53 and LTE Cat.10 support for up to 600Mbps download speed. However, we have no idea about GPU integration and other stuff, but it would be interesting to see how these chips perform. Additionally, both the chip are said to be officially announced on August 29.
Taiwan industry chain @ cold Greek Dev claims that MediaTek has received 200 million order for P23 and P30 Combined; where every month 3 million chip will be shipped. However, shipments will be based on demand, but still, these numbers are impressive and show the trust about MediaTek among the manufacturer.
On the other side, Snapdragon 450 is on its way for making an entrance in the market. The processor has already been announced by the Qualcomm and uses 14nm process along with octa-core CPU (8 x 1.8GHz Cortex-A53), up to Full HD display support, LPDDR3 and Adreno 506 GPU. The chip is very cost effective, and the price has been as low as 9 US dollars. So, it would be a difficult task for MediaTek to compete with Qualcomm as always.
