Design & Display
Both the smartphone manipulates metal unibody design and volume buttons are on left along with power button on both the devices. However, a dedicated button on the right side is present on Lenovo K8 to perform multiple tasks such as long press “Open Camera”, “LED flash” and much more.
The Lenovo K8 Note and Mi 5x feature 5.5-inch Full HD display panel at 401 PPI. Where Lenovo is providing Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, but Xiaomi didn’t mention any protection. When its comes to brightness, both the devices delivering 450 nits bright display, which I think should be more than enough even in direct sunlight visibility.
So there is no issue regarding display quality; both these handset are having a good panel to provide great multimedia experience. besides, Lenovo K8 has an advantage as it comes with built-in VR TheaterMax support to supply an immersive experience.
Hardware
The Lenovo K8 has the first phone to pack Helio X23 deca-core processor, built on 20nm architecture While the Xiaomi Mi 5X comes with an extremely power efficient chipset – the Snapdragon 625 processor with octa-core CPU. On paper, The Helio X23 looks very good with Mali-T880MP4, but Snapdragon CPU somehow not comparable with X23 but has a strong Adreno 506 GPU.
Regarding storage, both the variant arrive with two different variants; 3GB RAM + 32GB storage / 4GB RAM + 64GB storage on Lenovo K8 and 4GB RAM + 32GB storage / 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage on Xiaomi Mi 5X. Storage expansion option up to 256GB given on both, but Lenovo has a dedicated microSD slot and a hybrid slot for the Xiaomi Mi 5X. Speaking about the sensor, All the sensors are present on both the devices, including Fingerprint, ambient light, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass. Moreover, Dolby Atmos comes along with Lenovo K8 Note for enhanced audio adventure.
Camera
Both Lenovo and Xiaomi are highlighting camera than the other things given in these smartphones. The Xiaomi Mi 5X has a dual 12MP + 12MP rear cameras – one with a wide-angle lens and other with a telephoto lens offering portrait mode with 2x Optical Zoom. On the other hand, The Lenovo K8 brings 13 MP (PureCel Plus OV13855 sensor) + 5MP (S5K5E2 sensor) rear cameras but secondary camera is implemented to capture depth information for better focusing on the subject.
Undoubtedly, this article can’t be complete without talking about selfie camera. On the front, K8 has a 13MP sensor camera with f/2.0 aperture, wide-angle lens, LED flash and Mi 5X carries a 5MP shooter. If I had to pick, The Lenovo K8 appears to me an assuring pick. Both the smartphone looks promising in camera department when it comes to budget segment.
Battery & Software
The battery capacity on Mi 5X restricted to 3080 mAh, where all the other Xiaomi smartphones getting comparatively bigger batteries. But looking at its processor it should be last at least full day in moderate usage. Coming to Lenovo K8, It employs a 4000 mAh battery similar to its predecessor, but still, doubts remain how will it perform under the power-hungry chipset? But I don’t think the battery would be an issue on both the smartphones.
The Lenovo K8 Note is operated by Android 7.1.1, Nougat with stock Android by ditching the VIBE UI this time. The MIUI 9 based Android 7.1.1 operates the Xiaomi Mi 5X. It depends on you which UI you prefer most. MIUI either a good choice with multiple customizations while, Stock Android provides lag-free experience with fewer features. I personally like stock android rather any custom build UI.

The Lenovo K8 is priced at Rs. 12,999 (approx. 200US$) for 3GB/32GB variant which goes up to s. 13,999 (approx. 220 US$) for higher-end 4GB/64GB variant.
