Xiaomi has finally announced its much-anticipated device called Mi 8 Youth Edition (Lite) in home country China. Basically, this is a lighter version of the original Mi 8 with comparatively low specifications at a more affordable price. We are expecting that the device will arrive as Mi 8 Lite in global markets, yet no confirmation from the company. As expected, the device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 chipset coupled with Adreno 512 GPU.
The Mi 8 Youth is equipped with 6.26-inches 1080 x 2220 pixels Full HD+ display at 19:9 aspect ratio. The optics department is handled by the dual 12MP, Sony IMX363 sensor, f/1.9 + 5MP rear camera, whereas, on the front, it brings a 24MP selfie shooter with Sony IMX576 sensor. Considering the storage, the device has 3 variants: either 3/4 GB RAM and 64GB storage or a higher variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB inbuilt storage.

The device is backed by a 3,350 mAh non-removable battery supplied with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0. The handset measure 156.4×75.8×7.5mm and weighs 169 grams, further, it runs on the Android 8.1 Oreo with the company’s own custom MIUI on the top. The fingerprint sensor is embedded in the back and provides all the essential connectivity options including Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (dual-band), Bluetooth 5.0 LE, GPS with GLONASS, and USB Type-C port for charging.
Pricing and Availability
The Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth Edition comes in three Aurora Blue, Sunset Gold, and Midnight Black color options and is priced at 1,399 RMB (approx. US$205) for base variant and goes up to 1,699 RMB (approx. US$250) for 6GB + 64GB and 1,999 RMB (approx. US$290) for higher 6GB + 128GB variants respectively. Regarding the availability, the device is already up for pre-orders on the company’s official China store and will be released on September 25 in China. Further, the company didn’t provide any information regarding its global launch.
