MediaTek today announced a new chipset model the Helio P15 to join its most popular helio series. It’s a successor of the widespread Helio P10 with minor performance and battery optimizations.

The Helio P15 is an octa-core Cortex-A53 processor clocked at 2.2GHz paired with Mali-T860 MP2 (dual-core) GPU ticking at 800MHz. The original P10 chip has the same processor running at 2.0GHz and the same GPU clocked at 700MHz.

MediaTek claimes a 10% performance increase over the previous generation and better power efficiency. The Helio P15 chips will be manufactured on the same TSMC 28nm process as the P10, so the battery improvements won’t be that big. There is still no information on how much RAM it can support, but the chip is reportedly opting for the same single-channel LPDDR3-933 memory.

Helio P15 is LTE-capable with a support for LTE Cat.6 which Helio P10 completely misses. Currently, There is no info regarding P15 availability, but we can expect to have in various upcoming budget devices very soon.
